Toriera Free

Toriera grew up what she likes to call a street rat. She has no memories of her parents or even where she lived before the orphanage. Growing up in the orphanage wasn't as bad as people might have thought. The grown up was nice and she had so many brothers and sisters to play with everyday. However, this change, as she grew older and started her classes. Because the orphanage was small most of the younger kids was homeschooled by the grown up, but Toriera was different. At the age of only six she had already blown through every lessen the grown ups could come up with. Not wanting to hold her back in her education they quickly set up for Toriera to take advanced classes at the nearby school.

At first Toriera enjoyed her new life around so many new people. However, every time she made the top grade or won at some sport contest, she felt like she had one less friend to share it with. Being at less two years younger than the youngest kid in her class it was only a matter of time before others began to grow jealous or feel inferior. Even with her best attempt to dismiss these feel from her classmate she learn for the first time in life that there was something even she couldn't fix. The final nail came in the form of a comment toward her. "Let her have the top, after all she just an orphan..."

This only caused the girl to distance herself from everybody. Finding only solitude in her study, she worked harder than ever before. If others wanted to look down on her then she would make them all look up at her when she stood at the top of everything. Most of her school life consisted of study, study, and more study. Despite her family at the orphanage best effort she pushed hard and harder. Closing out much of the world around as she shocked everyone at her school in becoming the youngest person to graduate from it at age fourteen.

Form that there she only tried to reach higher. With no slowing down in sight she quickly joined a prestige college. But unlike her life in high school people here seem to respect her talent and wanted to watch her grow. For the first time she felt a new presser place on her shoulder. Not only did she want to show up the fools she left behind, but now she wanted to show everybody just how far she was able to go. Without learning the important lesson of letting go of the past Toriera pushed her studies to the next level. That is until her eighteen birthday.

No one knows what set Toriera this day. Maybe at long last she finally broke from the stress, maybe she hit a wall, she couldn't climb, or maybe she just wanted a new view on life. Whatever the cause, the result was the same as she suddenly had a meltdown during a class, punched a teacher, and then just disappeared leaving the Kingdom.

For five years she stayed away from Bellmuse before one day showing back up at Syne Academy hunting a job. With both a teaching degree along with a thesis on the uses of Dust to present to the Headmaster. Now, almost like a totally different person Toriera returned to her homeland to both help build it a new arm against the Grim as well as pursue her own study in Dust. This time however she was doing it for herself and no one else.

It seems no matter what she did everybody just stayed mad at her. The poor child sat with tears in her eyes as the shadows around her grew larger and larger. Each had a face that she once called friend, but now each were twisted in mocking form as they teased her. "She just tries to show off since she doesn't have a Mommy and Daddy." The tallest shadow said before bending down blocking out the sun. "Thinks she so much better than everyone. Thinks she so smart." Another one spoke.

"NO!!!" The child cried back. "I-I just wanted everyone to like me!" This only rallied the shadow more against her. "You just wanted everyone to think you're the best! Just wanted all to look up at you, Didn't you!" This time the shadow had the voice of what the child had once thought to be her first friend outside the orphanage. "Even your parents didn't like you! That's why they left you!" That was the last push needed for the tears flowed from the poor child's eyes. However, after a minute the crying slowly changed.

There were no longer any tears, no crying, only a small laugh. Grinning ear to ear, the child couldn't stop the laugher, nor did want to. "Is this the best you have?!" She screamed at the shadows. "WHAT!" A shadow yelled back, "Someone as worthless think you can..." But the child cut it off with one word. "Begone!" Suddenly, with a jerk Toriera awoke from her dream in her seat on the airship.

"Miss?" The pilot asked, standing next to the open door. "You Okay? Seem like you were having a bad dream." Greeting his worry with a grin the woman remover the rainbow hair from her eyes as she stood to exit the ship. "Ohh, that's sweet dear, but just some useless memories from the past." She said, giving the man a light tap on the shoulder. Once off the ship, she took a moment to look back at the view below her now. Now grinning ear to ear, the woman couldn't help but be filled with joy. "Beside I'm finally at the top." With that Toriera turn to leave her memories in the past for the last time as she quickly made her way toward her new home: Syne Academy.
