Aka Hanako

Aka Hanako
The dreary air hung thick with some measure of mystique, passing along like some echoing whisper which always seemed to return. It was a peaceful stillness, although still anxious in the minds of many, particularly Aka. When it came to anxiety, Aka was a woman of expertise; a veteran, if you will. It came with her... habits, but tonight was different, as she was defending the school.

Aka took the responsibility to be a night-guard this evening, and not just because it was a surefire way to make it known that she was doing her best for the school. She owed it to these kids to make sure that they had a safe and stable environment to hone their craft; to make the most of their youth before they too were thrown forth into the fray like she was. It had been her wanderlust that got her into this career, but surely many others had different inspirations for doing what they have chosen to do.

These were just a few simple thoughts that rummaged through the ravenette counselour's mind as she idly patrolled the commons, pulling the bill of her security cap down every time the wind would blow a chill that was just a bit too much for her. Though it had been some time, security was nothing new for her, just a dim reminder of what she had left the school to do in the first place. Thus, it became apparent that everything had circled around and combined as one. Now she was working here, at the school, and performing the routine security checks which she had grown to loathe in all their tedium, yet love for the implications of resounding danger.

It was no difference here either, for Aka glanced at a thick outer wall and was suddenly reminded that there could be a rabid Grimm clambering over the top at any moment, as it just happened to find its way here, whether led by some negative emotion or by sheer happenstance. It was terrifying to know that death could be right around the corner as a simple coincidence. She walked forth and gently rested her palm against the structure, letting it serve as a sensation that would remind her of the rules that she needed to remember when she was doing this kind of work.

One mistake; one error was all it would take to endanger her life as well as innumerable others...

Thus was the fate befallen of soldiers, Huntsman, and huntresses everywhere. It was not a job, nor a career, but a calling. It was a way of life to not only combat the creatures of Grimm and the enemies of the kingdoms, but also to understand them, what they do, how, and why. Yet it was the Grimm that were simple to Aka, and she was reminded of that too as she turned from the wall and traipsed back to the beaten path beside a residence building.

It was the adversaries that were not so clearly defined that gave her the most pause. Upon seeing a Grimm, one could clearly say that it was not an ally, yet there were people that lurked in the shadows that were just waiting to cause discord and sow chaos in the hearts of society. Terrorists, extremists, and lunatics existed in the world, driven by hate or greed or even just a desire to cause pain.

Aka suddenly found her heart pierced by such negativity and the unease that it caused her deep down. Her pocket rattled as she reached and held a small capsule within it, withdrawing and quickly stuffing it back in as though she couldn't make up her mind. To be frank, she was hating herself for even giving the idea a brief moments consideration. There was an emotion that she hadn't felt in a while; disgust.

She had an urge and she followed it, sprinting up to the wall and pitching the bottle up and up, over the outer wall and landing on the other side of the wall that housed the campus grounds. Then, she was assaulted by an instinct that demanded that she go and retrieve it 'just in case' but that voice was no good to her. It was just a hollow symbol of defiance to an old mistake that she'd once made and couldn't seem to forget. It was a memory that blurred others, but she didn't get to make the decision as to which ones were gone and which were allowed to stay.

And that... That is why she needed to leave it behind. It was the first step to a slew of other troubles that plagued her. Aka finally turned away from the wall and flashed her torch left and right to observe for any voyeurs that may have caught that snippet of drama between her and an inanimate object, but she seemed to be able to safely say that she was safe for now, and turned back to continue her route yet again.

She now turned her gaze toward the moon as it seemed to freeze in its fractured state. The moon was so pretty tonight, but then again, the moon was always beautiful and people had just seen the thing so, much that such majesty was simply lost on them. That was just the way things were.

Her mind drifted back to reality soon, however, as she began to consider what extra work she had done and how surprising it was that she had yet to even hear about any headway gained on her position here at the academy at all. It was criminal, really, to limit her to this monotonous position when she could be doing real work for the kids and giving them the real information that they need. Whose idea was it to stick her here anyway?

Soon, she relented. She really just needed to work even harder if she wasn't making any progress, and now was the time to start if she was going to. So from there, she mustered her focus and made the choice to work even harder to regain her position.
