Of guns and grimms [Solo Hunt]

Where are they when you need them?

Averia Frost let out an aggravated sigh. She stepped out of the pitch-black depths of the small cave she had been in all day and savoured the drop of sunlight that had washed over her. The fresh breeze of wind caught her delicate feature, letting golden hair billow back with the breeze. She had had come to this place this morning in hopes of finding a grimm to kill. And just when she was in the mood to do so, no creature had yet to show its presence to the bored girl.

Charming.

Averia clicked her tongue and proceeded to walk off, counting sheeps in her thoughts as she did. She slid her hands inside the pockets of her shorts and wondered how poorly dressed she was in response to the weather. Her top was nothing but a thin piece of white sleeveless turtleneck shirt and her shorts were micro. You know, those types that covered like, nothing. The only appropriate clothing she probably wore were the pair of boots that reached up to her knees. That's it.

From her pocket she took out a piece of gum and popped it on her mouth, chewing and occasionally popping a bubble - something to alleviate the dull sounds of her footsteps. As she continued to walk, she reached for one of her golden pistols on her holster and begun spinning it on her hand. Anything to stray away from this rather boring hunt.

A pair of Nevermore's flew across the top of the canopy of Skylight Woods. The monsters dominated the airspace, crushing anything that enters their territory. As the two flew across the sky, normal creatures of the woods hid, hoping to evade being spotted by the Nevermores. It didn't matter however, these monsters had eyesight that put a Hawks to shame. Hiding from them was difficult. In fact, what really saved these normal creatures from the claws of a Nevermore was entirely dependent on the decision of the Nevermore. If it didn't feel like chasing prey, then the prey survived. However, if a Nevermore did feel like chasing prey, things usually ended messy.

High above the forest, at a distance where they would simply appear to be birds on the horizon, they spotted a human behind the foliage of the treetops. A teenage girl at that. These Nevermore's were smart compared to their lower counterparts. As they moved in closer, they could begin to spot that the girl had handguns on her and could deduce she was a huntress. It really didn't matter though, all humans, hunter or not, was their prey.

Nevermore 1 flew in front of Nevermore 2. As Nevermore 1 was just about 150 meters above Averia, it unleashed a barrage of massive feathers. These feathers weren't any ordinary feathers however. Each one sized at about 8 feet long, composed of some kind of material just as tough as steel with armor piercing capabilities and would rain down on Averia through the forest canopy.

Nevermore 2 continued to follow behind, trying to not make its presence so known. It took a lower approach along the top of the forest in order help keep itself hidden.

OOC: the nevermore's are Level 4 btw. otherwise I'd never go solo. xD

Averia was still popping a bubble with her gum, eyes lowered to find something interesting, until finally she noticed it. A blue and red mushroom. Woah~ It was Averia's first time seeing such type of fungus, so she stopped on her tracks, crouched down and admired the little thing. Suddenly, a random giant-sized feather dropped right in front of her. Her heart skipped a beat and her instincts kicked in. Jumping back, she looked up and saw the pesky Nevermore flying on the surface. Of all grimms she had to encounter, it just had to be a highly mobile one. She dashed through the forest, eyes switching between looking at where she's going and on the rain of feathers above to make sure she didn't get skewered. She moved swiftly, zigzagging her way around the feathers until she decided to make a sharp turn. She skidded against the ground and used her momentum to dart to her right. A feather managed to graze her left thigh causing her to wince... and throw in some profanities along the way.

Once she gained a good distance from the bird, she lowered down, placing her free hand on the ground and summoned an ice pillar directly beneath her. The pillar stood tall a little lower than the grimm's. She coated one leg with ice connected to the pillar itself to prevent herself from slipping. She proceeded to whip out her other golden gun and rained bullets on the nevermore from its right side. The guns were more powerful now - an increased magazine size and providing a good amount of recoil. The only thing stopping her from falling off the tower was her ice-coated leg. With her last bullets on each gun, she charged them with her ice semblance and fired it on the Nevermore's wings. Once hit, the ice would scatter on its wings and hopefully the weight was enough to bring it down.

Battle Log:

Nevermore 1 spun and preformed a barrel roll to evade the oncoming storm of bullets, but it was impossible to evade all of it. The bullets caught the Nevermore's right wing. The ice on the bullets caught its wing and slowed it down, but it wasn't enough to entirely immobilize the Nevermore, after all, these winged monsters had immense strength. Nevermore 1 began to fly in a round arc away from Averia, knowing full well that with the ice on its wings, it wouldn't be capable of successfully dodging the huntresses attacks. As Nevermore 1 was flying in a large arc, it was pecking the ice off of its wings before it would come back around.

Nevermore 2 had suddenly made its appearance, as it charged the huntress atop of her ice pillar full on, intending to take out the pillar as well as the huntress.

Averia chuckled a little as she saw the Nevermore pecking the ice from its wings. She actually found it cute. Now if only they weren't savage beasts pestering people, she might consider taking one home as a pet. However, her thoughts were interrupted when another Nevemore appeared and charged to her location.

Another one?! Averia narrowed her eyes and grumbled. Just her luck.

From its motion, she could tell this new Nevermore was going to attack head on... just as planned. Well, she actually planned for the other Nevermore to charge at her, but this one can do too. The ice on her leg melted as she prepared to take on the charging grimm. She placed one gun back on her holster. Her now free hand formed an ice spear as she took her stance, bracing for impact. When the grimm was near she bounded forward a little to the left. She received the full attack of the grimm, coughing a little from the collision on its beak, but she took this opportunity to drive down the ice spear on the bird's left eye, her other gun firing rapidly on the other eye. Still on hold of the spear, she used it to pull and throw herself up and land on the back of the grimm.

"Okay, my turn," she murmured, whipping out her other weapon. She proceeded to run along the Nevermore's back, focusing on stabilizing her balance as one gun fired on the bird's lower back while the other on its left wing.

Battle Log:

The ice spear struck Nevermore 2 directly, causing it to instinctively veer up to avoid further attacks. The Nevermore did not expect the huntress to jump on it's back however, and began to spin as it ascended vertically, in an attempt to shake the huntress off of its back. It was impossible for the massive bird to dodge all of the bullets, and plenty of them struck it along its back and wings. The feathers of a Nevermore weren't the same as the feathers of a normal bird. They were tougher and actually formed minimal armor for the Grimm. Of course, the bullets stung, causing the bird to screech out in pain.

As Nevermore 2 reached a fairly high altitude, it flipped its body around, facing directly below itself to the ground. Unsure if the huntress was on its back or not, Nevermore 2 launched a volley of massive projectile arrows that would fly to the ground and hit anything that was below it.

Nevermore 1 managed to successfully remove all of the ice from it's wings and began to arc back around to Averia, and would soon rejoin the battle.

"...!!"

Averia lost her balance, tumbling down across its back as the Nevermore began to ascend. From its motion alone, she realized it planned to spin on its path the same way the first grimm did and the aspiring huntress had only split seconds to decide. Her hands were full with both guns and if she chose to grab a hold of the bird, she'd have to sacrifice one gun in the process. For aerial grimms like Nevermores, she couldn't afford to gain distance from them for they specialize in long range combat, and without a tool for flight herself, she'd have the disadvantage.

Averia released one gun and she used her free left hand to grab a hold of one of its tail feathers firmly, halting her descending motion. She crystallized her hand against the feathers with ice to reassure her position. However, that cost her her weapon. She whined childishly as she watched her precious golden gun drop free falling to the ground. Now she's mad. She awaited for the right time the grimm was no longer on a vertical position and once the Nevermore flipped around to send feather projectiles, Averia took the chance. The crystallized ice on her hand shattered and she pulled herself back up behind the Nevermore.

With a simple swipe of her gun to her back, she reloaded her gun, switched it to her left hand, then began to fire bullets on its nape and back.

Battle Log:

Nevermore 2 flailed at the gun shots, in an attempt to shake Averia off. It was to no avail however, and the bullets shredded through its neck, proving to be fatal, and ultimately killing it. Nevermore 2 began to fall out of the sky, parts of it disintegrating as it did.

Nevermore 1 was flying towards the location of the remains of Nevermore 2 and the huntress at blinding speeds. It saw as its counterpart died, but it didn't feel sorrow or anything like that. In fact, it only looked down on the other Nevermore. Nevermore's were natural predators, loosing to prey was the biggest embarrassment.

Nevermore 1 flew right through Nevermore 2, cutting the remains of its ally in half in an attempt to knock the huntress off and cause her to fall from an immense height.

Upon seeing the Nevermore succumb to its death, Averia gave out a sigh of relief. However, it was only then that her motion sickness caught up to her. Her vision spun and she felt like throwing up. The spinning motion the grimm made earlier gave her a severe headache but she was too focused on the battle that it was only after its death that all the dizziness caught up to her. She didn't even see the incoming attack from the first Nevermore and she suffered the full impact from the blow.

Averia cursed under her breath. She quickly reverted back to her battle mode, pushing unnecessary thoughts and concerns aside to have full concentration on battle. She was already free-falling but the distance from the first Nevermore wasn't far. She still stood a chance. She twisted her body so she was facing the grimm while falling back first. She reloaded her gun within seconds and fired towards the grimm's belly and head, her tunnel vision and accuracy heightened due to adrenaline rush.

Click. click. The gun ran out of bullets and she missed the convenience of her other gun. Still, she won't let it end like this. If she was gonna fall, she's gonna take that grimm with her. She charged her gun with her semblance instead and continued firing ice bullets towards the bird.

Battle Log:

Nevermore 1 wasn't far away as Averia began to fire upon it, and as result, a majority of the bullets began to land. The Nevermore tried to preform midair manuevers to dodge the attacks, but by the time it began to, it was too late. The bullets switched to ice ones and began to further limit its mobility.

The Grimm was confused as it began to lose. Loss was something a Grimm of it's level was unable to understand. The predator should never lose to the prey...

Within no time, the bullets completely shredded apart the Nevermore, and the mighty winged beast was defeated. Its shredded remains dispersed into black ashes, as was the natural nature of Grimm.

"Finally..."

Averia felt like closing her eyes right there and then to take a rest as the grimm disintegrated to black ashes right in front of her. However, she remembered she was free falling. Oh, right. She twisted her body so that she was facing the ground. Stretching out her free hand, she channeled her semblance to create multiple ice platforms down from her position and to the ground. Reloading her gun and firing in midair to use the recoil to slow her descent, she would then step on one platform and jump on to the next one down until she was near the ground to which she would jump off before the platforms crash. Her landing was rather rough as her body propelled across the ground a few metres and she ended up laying on her back.

She sighed as she stayed a little longer on that position, just staring straight up in the sky admiring the black ashes that now began to fade away, leaving no trace that she had just killed two Nevermores and actually survived.
