"We'll be at the drop zone in a few minutes. Prepare for deployment." A voice sounded over the intercom of an airship.

Kei didn't say anything. Instead, he continued to look out of the window of the airship. It was traveling quickly across the snow top of the canopy of Finnek Forest. Despite the height at which Kei was at, it was hard to see a far distance. Heavy and violent snowfall was currently taking place and completely blocked him from viewing anything past a certain distance.

Kei stood alone in the cargo bay of the small airship. Kei held onto a railing that hung from the ceiling to help himself keep his balance. The airship wasn't anything fancy, just a simple cargo ship the academy sometimes used for transportation. The cargo room itself was empty and was enclosed, separated from where the pilot of the airship was located by a closed door.

It was a reconnaissance mission this time. That was what the Academy sent him out on this time around. Supposedly the recent heavy snowfall made it difficult to track Grimm from the skies. To avoid future disasters, he was to be dropped into the forest despite the heavy snowfall.

Honestly, it was a bad idea. He hated snow. He told the Academy higher ups this very often. Yet they still sent him out on this mission. They probably did it because they didn't like him too much.

Suddenly, a side door in the cargo bay slid open and a blast of cold air hit Kei, causing him to raise an arm in front of his eyes to protect it from snow. Looking out of the door, Kei could see the tree tops whizz past below him.

"Green light for drop! Green light!" The pilot over the intercom said.

Kei knocked the door to the pilots cockpit twice to signal his leave and jumped out of the side door.

He was dropped off at about canopy level, so he only fell 20 feet. It was not too high and the snow provided an excellent cushion to the hard ground that Kei was able to safely land with a roll. He quickly got back to his feet, dusting snow that collected on him from the fall off. Above, the rumble of the airships engine grew softer and softer as it flew away.

Despite only leaving the airship, Kei was already freezing, rubbing his arms in an attempt to keep warm. He looked around to check his surroundings. The quicker he got this mission done, the better.

King Taijitu

King Taijitu
A Wild lvl 5 King Taijitu appears!
King Taijitu : 200HP

Snow is good for camouflage… unless your whole body is black. Luckily, the King Taijitu has half its body being white, so it’s at the very least half hidden. Then it’s all a question of using the environment to keep it’s black body out of view while the white one goes first, blending quite splendidly in the snow. If it wasn’t for the globulous red eyes, it would be virtually impossible to see. It was all a question of perspective. The Yin Yang snake had heard the airship then sensed the landing of the human not too far away. Since he knew where the human was, it was only a question of keeping the white body in front and avoiding passing in front of a tree. Now it is still hard to miss considering the size of the thing, as if a small snowy hill was moving. But so long as it moved slowly, it was confident that it would be stealthy enough to sneak on one measly human if the bipedal being didn’t bother to look too hard in his peripheral vision.

There wasn’t much distance left so it stopped to observe a bit. The human smelled powerful, more than the average human and faunus it smelled before. But then again, the snake wasn’t average either.

The black head was getting antsy and impatient a bit and couldn’t wait anymore. They either had the element of surprise or they didn’t, the longer they waited, the more chances the human had of spotting them which was only a matter of time. With barely a hiss being heard, it lifted its head and charged, using it’s bony mask to ram into the human as hard as it could.

Aside from obviously immense strength, one of the aspects that really set a King Taijitu aside from the other Grimms was its combination of speed and stealth. Kei didn't see the massive snakes approach up until the last second when he briefly saw the large black head in his peripheral mere moments before it struck him. At this point, there was nothing else he could do other than to brace himself for the attack.

Kei twisted his upper torso to face the black heads sudden attack and raised both of his forearms to take the full force of the attack and to protect his body. The attack knocked Kei back and sent him tumbling through the snow. Even though his padded Kevlar Trench Coat took a majority of the blow, his forearms still stung, no doubt bruised from that one attack. Kei didn't hesitate over this pain though. In a fight against something as fast as a King Taijitu, you didn't have time to stop for even a single moment. The only way to survive, was to keep moving, and kill it before it killed you.

As soon as Kei regained his footing in the snow, Kei pushed off of the ground, charging at the snake. As Kei got within the black heads striking distance, Kei grabbed the weighted end of one of the coils of wires on his belt and threw at a sturdy tree branch directly above. The wire wrapped securely around the branch and automatically began to retract, pulling Kei up. As Kei reached the tree branch, the wire began to loosen around the branch and reel back into Kei's belt. Before he would fall though, Kei kicked off of the bottom of the branch and launched himself at the black head of the King Taijitu.

Kei released the two mini-harpoons from the wrist launchers and held them in his hand as a makeshift dagger. At this same time, Kei sent electricity running through his hands into the harpoons. Flying at the King Taijitu, Kei brought his electrified weapons down onto the head for a heavy initial attack. Kei wasn't done though, and quickly moved over to the black heads right eye, and made several more quick jabs at it, intending to cripple the head.

Kei wasn't sure where the white head was during this time, but he wasn't about to get his hopes up in the case that there was no white head. There was always a second head...

The white head was mad. It was certain that they had the drop on the human yet the black one charged first, the visible one. Though it couldn’t be too mad since the attack landed, it was just annoyed because it’s second half attacked out of turn. Luckily, the human hadn’t looked its way yet, only concentrated with the black head, so this was good for it. Waiting for its chance, the white head saw it after feeling the electricity course through its shared body. The black head was caught off guard by the speed of the human and couldn’t avoid the initial attack. The human didn’t look like it was going to stop attacking, so the white head took its chance and charged in, mouth open, trying to bite the fleshy bipedal head off from the black head’s … head.

The black head jerked away the moment its white half attack came in range. It didn’t register if the attack hit but hit or not, the human wasn’t on its head anymore so it was either mid-air from dodging or mid-air after taking the hit. Conclusion, the pesky human was mid-air and unless it suddenly learned to fly, it couldn’t dodge now. With an angry hiss, the wounded black head took this opportunity to charge with as much force as it could into the hunter in training. It didn’t plan to stop even if it hit, its goal was to use the biggest tree in that direction as a mortar and grind the flesh and bone of the human to fine paste. Screw eating it, that annoying fleshbag dared hurt it, it was going to pay. Unfortunately for its plan, the tree, while pretty big, couldn’t handle the charge and broke in half.

Rearing back quickly, both heads on each side of the human, they waited for its next move, studying him. They were caught off guard by the speed of the bipedal, but now that they knew what he could do, they would be ready to deal with it.

Kei wasn't carelessly attacking the black head and knew the white one would be somewhere, and as such, Kei didn't let his attention to his surroundings stop. When the white head revealed itself with an attack towards Kei, Kei abandoned his flurry of attacks on the black head and jumped off, getting out of the way of the white heads attack.

Jumping off left him open for another attack though, and Kei was defenseless to the black heads next attack which struck him on the side. The impact hit Kei heavily and launched him in the opposite direction. It stung and he wasn't sure what kind of injuries that attack left him with, but Kei pushed passed the pain, a counter attack already in mind as he took that last slam from the black head.

Being launched backward, Kei used one of the coils of wires on his belt and threw the weighted end at a sturdy tree branch above him. The wire wrapped around the branch securely as it did. As the wire reached its maximum length from Kei being flung backward, Kei would be flunged around the tree branch instead of hitting the ground behind him. The wire came loose as Kei came around and Kei was released now flying back at the black head.

Like before, Kei came down onto the black snake head with furious momentum, striking it one of his mini harpoons that he was once again charging with his semblance. Not enough, Kei brought his second mini harpoon down for consecutive strike. Following these two attacks, Kei dove once again for the black heads right eye, striking at it twice more with every intention of crippling it.

The two headed snake was only somewhat surprised by the move used by the human to launch him at them. They had misjudged him at first but were now ready for his speed. They didn’t know about the wire-thingy he used to spin around the branch but they were expecting him to turn back on them so they were ready. As fast as the move was, the black head understood what was happening the moment the human’s trajectory began to shift from centrifugal force. While the human was mid-spin around the branch, the black head shifted backward to place one of the multiple trees between them. The white head had also started to move toward their opponent and was glad the black part of him avoided that attack since it was charged with electricity like the one that had hit them before.

The momentum and power of the human let it break through the tree and still land on the black head to attack it. Trashing around, the black head tried to dislodge the human from its body which had the added benefit of preventing him from landing a clean blow on the hard mask from the second and third attack, taking no damage from these hits. His eye didn’t fare as good since even a graze was enough to wound and hurt it and the last attack did much more than graze it. Hissing and trashing even more from the pain, it suddenly reversed its head to slam it on the ground while the human was still on it, trying to crush him. After that, the black head retreated to keep its distance from the human while the white head occupied the human.

As fast as it could, the white head trampled over the human barely a second after the black head retreated. Placing itself between the human and the wounded black head, it readied itself to fight more actively the bipedal being. It was warry of those metal pointy things and the electricity they sometimes were charged with. The wire was also something it was watching for; the slightly calmer white head had a picture in its mind of its neck being tangled with the wire instead of the branch from before and had no intention of letting that happen.

Kei lost his balance as the black head began to thrash about causing Kei to slide off. Kei landed on the ground on his back next to the black head. Kei couldn't relax for long though, when the black head raised itself, towering above Kei preparing to crush the him under its weight.

Desperately, Kei grabbed on of the ends of the weighted wires on his belt and threw it at a nearby tree. The wire secured itself around the tree and began to retract itself, pulling Kei out from under the black head moments before being crushed to death.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire they say, and Kei was immediately the target of the white head, which charged him head on while the wire was still pulling him closer to the tree. Like being hit by a truck, the attack was heavy and fast.

Kei was caught under the white snake as it hit him, and got trampled over. Kei let his body go with the flow though and was tumbled about. Locking his body to resist being trampled would only lead to more injuries. The wire which was secured around the tree that Kei used to escape the black head was forcibly pulled out from around the tree as Kei got trampled on.

After the white had had completely gone over him, Kei rolled over to his belly, heaving himself back onto his feet. He was sore all over from bruises and scratches,  but even so, Kei had to admit that was pretty lucky of him. He wouldn't have been surprised if he had broken something from what just had happened.

Kei watched the two large snake heads. They didn't seem like they'd be going down anytime soon.

"I don't get paid enough for this.." Kei muttered to himself as he loaded both of the mini harproons into their launchers, freeing up his hands.

Kei paused for a second and took a deep breath to recollect himself, then he took off, running in a large arc around the two snake heads, weaving though the trees. The mass of trees would provide cover from head on attacks, but they also would provide breaks in the King Taijitu's line of vision. Kei would take advantage of these breaks, changing his speed as he moved around the snake to throw off what the King Taijitu would think of Kei's movement speed.

Human or Grimm, it didn't matter who was his opponent. Years of combat taught Kei to take advantage of every single aspect in battle. If there wasn't enough advantages, you'd make your own. If you didn't have the advantage in terms of strength, make up for it in with elements of surprise and unpredictability.

As Kei went behind a tree out of the King Taijitu's view, Kei immediately stopped in his tracks. Pointing his right arm up at the tree, Kei fired the mini harpoon launcher at a sturdy branch above, which the mini harpoon dug itself into. The wire connected to the harpoon began to retract and pull Kei up the tree by his arm. As he reached the branch, Kei flipped his body around moving himself from under the branch to ontop of it, yanking the harpoon out of the wood in the process. Mini harpoon in his right hand, Kei began to move towards the King Taijitu from high up in the trees.

Once above the white head of the King Taijitu, Kei fired the other mini harpoon from the launcher in his left hand, causing it to embed itself into a tree behind the black head. The wire began to retract and pull Kei at high speeds at the black head. At the moment, the black head was in a weaker state then the white one. That meant it would be the easier of the two to deal with.

Being pulled by his left arm, Kei made a slash at the black head with the mini harpoon in his right hand. When he reached the harpoon in the tree, Kei yanked it out with his left hand and kicked off of the tree, launching himself at the side of the body of the black head this time. Kei made two jabs at the side of the black head's body, then jumped over it. As Kei went over it, he rolled his body in the air, which gave him room to once again strike at the body, but this time from the top. Like before, Kei sent electricity from his hand into the weapon he was striking with, causing blue sparks to dance across the sharpened pole, further intensifying the attack.

King Taijitu

King Taijitu
Lvl 5 King Taijitu 15HP

Typical tactics when one person in a duo is injured is to have the injured party stand back and provide long range support while the healthy party runs interferences. For the King Taijitu, it is slightly more difficult to accomplish since they have a limit as to how far from each other they can go, seeing as they share the same body. It has the added advantage of having both heads close enough to protect each other, but unfortunately in this situation, the black head wasn’t far enough to really prevent the human from reaching it. The snake king knew that the bipedal had access to wires, but didn’t really know that he could pull himself that way with it. As intelligent as they could be, for beings without a soul, they couldn’t really know about technology that they never witnessed. Their intelligence is more of a very high sense of observation. They can see something opera and immediately guess at its uses, but if they have never seen it before, it is impossible to take into account in their thinking. Had they faced another wire user before, they might have known that sometimes, the mechanism allow the user to be actually pulled by the wire instead of only using it to change course using momentum. That being said, there was no way they could have guessed he could use the cable to move like this.

The white head had actually followed the movements behind the trees easily, making it look almost trivial in fact. Speed variation wasn’t out of the parameters of what it could predict, so it wasn’t even phased by it. It still lost sight of the human a few times but that was always easily corrected by strafing to the side so it could see him. Still, the human always moved just as it was able to see it again, irritating the snake a bit. Until he disappeared. The white head immediately guessed he got up in the tree, but didn’t see it happen. It followed the human through it movements, getting ready to intercept him when he got in range. When the Grimm saw the harpoon being launched, it got a bit confused, wondering why he aimed so far from them. While the snake guessed the wire would help him travel in some way, it didn’t expect the movement being that immediate and straight forward. It watched helplessly as the human, out of reach, flew past it toward the wounded black half. Without waiting though, the white head rushed toward the tree the harpoon was embedded into.

On his side, the black head was concentrating more on ignoring the pain. It felt more than it saw the human pass by since it took a slash from him. Before the hunter could jump from the tree, the white head tried to bite him, but even if he dodged, the head was going to crush the tree he was standing on before he could jump.

The black head on its part retracted behind the white head, grabbed a piece of the tree that was just destroyed and flung it at the human, more of a desperate attack than anything, but it suddenly stopped moving, dying from its wounds. The white head was now alone and angry. While they shared the same body, joined by the tail, they were still two separate beings in a sense. It’s like they had two lives, even if the black half was essentially dead, the white one was still somewhat in perfect health. They did share the same life force in a way though, and even thought the white head was unhurt, it could feel that it’s life was only hanging by a thread. It was angry but still thinking clearly. It was pretty sure it had seen all the human’s tricks and was ready for anything.

Not enough to move backwards, a tree coming from above, and the white head coming quickly from the front. There wasn't any room to dodge. Kei knew his limits. He braced himself, not planning to dodge all of the upcoming attacks, but rather to already brace himself for his next attack.

Kei charged forward at the white snake, moving out of the path of the falling tree. He put his right forward as he did, which the white head bit down on. Kei clenched his teeth as the over sized snake bit down on it. His trench coat protected his arm from being completely torn apart by the Grimm's teeth, but it did little to nothing in protecting it from being crushed.

It was momentary though and Kei balled his right hand into a fist and sent a high voltage of electricity through his trapped arm as he did. There was a loud cackle as the electricity pulsed from his arm into the mouth of the White Head. It was also at this time when the tree thrown by the black snake came down behind him, shaking the ground.

Kei brought the weapon in his left hand around, striking at the White Head.

King Taijitu

King Taijitu
Lvl 5 King Taijitu - Dead -

The white head thought it was ready for anything, but there was no way it could have foreseen this outcome. It was wary of the human’s lightning powers and was looking for them, but no one really expect someone to take a hit in order to strike back. Especially not a bite from a snake that could eat you whole and call it a light snack. That is the kind of action that this Grimm, with all its relatively high intelligence, could never in a million year imagine. Grimms, those that are old enough at least, have a survival instinct that makes it that they can’t fathom risking permanent damage only for a bite of food they don’t even really need.

What Kei did was a total surprise for the white head, so surprising that it didn’t even register the move before its head exploded from the lightning surge. Now some people would wonder how simple lightning would make a Grimm head explode. The reason comes from the peculiar traits of Grimm’s body, specifically what happens to the body of a Grimm as it dies. Most of it is just theory, but a lot think the Grimm don’t have actual bodies, their physical form simply exist thanks to the life force that keeps it cohesive, keeps it tangible. This explains why when their life force fade, their body start disappearing, the very existence of the flesh and bone of the Grimm gradually rendered null by the absence of the metaphorical glue that kept it together. So it could be understandable that the Grimm’s body would be uncharacteristically fragile in that state. Thus, even the smallest of hits could sever the head of the biggest snake one could imagine. A semblance hit that emits energy? Well, let’s say that it’s like using a battering ram to topple a house of cards. Unfortunately for the human, being at ground zero, he took a face-full of the Grimm’s fleshy bits before they had the time to even start to fade to nothingness. Real body or not, those are still stinky and slimy.

Now that the life force was extinguished though, the combined body of the white and black heads started to dissolve in the air slowly.

Kei stood still for a few seconds after the King Taijitu exploded, leaving his arm which sent the final jolt of electricity through raised. He was still highly focused on combat, adrenaline coursing through his body, ready to attack or defend depending on what would happen next. He had a feeling the oversize snake was on its last legs, but he wasn't the type of person to automatically assume a battle was over until it was over.

Upon realizing the King Taijitu was finished, Kei relaxed himself, dropping his raised arm to his side. His body was sore all over from his fight with the King Taijitu, but his arm that had gotten bitten down on was easily the worst of his injuries. Sharp pain filled this arm as he tried to move his fingers, causing him to wince.
A torn muscle perhaps? Kei thought to himself a bit annoyed, I really don't get paid enough...
Kei also noticed for the first time how out of breath he was. He wasn't paying attention to how much energy he put into his fight as he was too focused pushing past any pain and battling the King Taijitu.

Trudging through the snow, Kei moved over to a tree and propped his back against it. Upon doing so, he pulled out his scroll and sent a message that he was ready for pick up via airship. Yea, sure he didn't really do much of a reconnaissance of the area as he was attacked immediately upon arrival, but at least it was one King Taijitu shorter.

It was only a few minutes later when the airship that had dropped him off returned and gave Kei a ride back to the academy.
