It was a rather beautiful day outside today. Sunny, clear sky and a nice refreshing wind blew swiftly across the tree branches of the forest that surrounded the school. It was the perfect weather for a little flight around the academy to scout where everything was and it was a rather good plan for Ash's first day at the school. She just got off of the airship earlier, got all her stuff moved to the dorm room she was assign, her mech suit included which meant that if she really wanted to go out flying today she'd need to reach her room first.

Rolling in the hallway on her wheelchair following a map on her Scroll that was held on her armrest like a personal computer, Ash attracted a little bit the attention being probably the only person in the whole academy to get around in a wheelchair. It was to be expected to be honest, no one would just look at her and think it's totally normal for her to be around here. In fact a lot seemed to be unsure about her being fitted to be a Huntress at all form what she could get from the whispers as she past by. The girl didn't mind them in the slightest as she believed she just had to show them what she could do one day.

Although very optimistic, Ash's bright smile quickly turned into a look of despair as the map, wherever she went, only brought her to staircases as she had to go up to get to her room. Trying to find any less arduous way to her room was impossible as she looked over and over again on the map and couldn't find any other route. Sighing, the girl noticed a missed call from a member of the school staff. They left a message saying that the school wasn't fully accessible for her right now and that they were planning to work on the problem as soon as possible but that for now it may be a bit difficult for her to get around. They did mention that her room had a balcony though as a way to apology, which would make things easier for her to go outside with her mech suit. She still had to get to her room though and that got her a little bit frustrated as she stayed there staring at the first step of the staircase while pouting and mumbling to herself. "Sure, give me a balcony, but don't make anything for me to actually get to my room in the first place..."

The awakening ritual of bone clicking had commenced, the gratuitous noise echoing throughout the dorm halls of the academy. A late rise for most was an early one for him. So early had he risen that his pet chimp, usually having to wait half an hour longer before effectively dragging him out of bed, was still asleep. The short man, throwing on his usual walking boots, a set of old green trousers and a light brown shirt so tattered that it had entirely lost it's sleeves. It was far too early to be lugging around his weapon at this hour... so he lifted an electric dust crystal and some of the explosive type; though he was less inclined to use it.

A quick note to his chimp scrawled at their room's desk and the boy was out, into the empty dorm halls. He continued his clicking routine, pulling his right arm down his back before repeating with the left. He closed his eyes as he made his way down the stairs, pushing his head once left then once right; letting out two final clicks. The short man stepped down from the final stair, having not noticed the girl to his right... what was a civilian doing at the foot of the dormitories? Waiting for a relation?

Richard paused, looking to the girl. Brown hair, scroll held up by some device. Certainly a civilian. His shoulders loosened a little, he hadn't heard any other footsteps down here nor in the dormitory. He didn't have to be so perceptive around a civilian, let alone one in a wheelchair.

He felt a little awkward though... like... was this person just waiting for someone or where they lost or? Could they not get up the stairs? He was done giving tours, two lots of students was enough but... eh a civilian guiding, might get a reward for it.

"Oi oi... Are you lost or?" He asked the seemingly sour looking girl, hoping not to startle her, "Or like... waiting for someone maybe? I could go up and call on them? It's not too much effort... well, long as the name isn't too long."

Ashley Skyler

Lost in her thoughts for a moment, Ash didn't realized that someone got down the stairs she was actually looking at this whole time. She only noticed him when he spoke to her and asked if she was either lost or waiting for someone. It took a moment for the girl in order to respond to him as he was the first to openly speak to her today and was kind of caught off guard. "Lost? Oh no don't worry I'm not, and neither am I waiting for someone. I'm actually trying to figure out how to get to my dorm. Getting there shouldn't be too hard with the map of the school, I just have to follow it really but the problem is whichever path I try to take there leads me to a set of stairs, which I obviously can't climb..."

Ash rose her fist up lightly over her knee and hit it a couple of time as a demonstration. She clearly felt nothing from it. "Total lack of motor or sensitive nerves for my legs. Everything else works just fine but, I'm pretty much stuck to a wheelchair for the rest of my life." She said that with an honest smile and voluntarily not mentioning that she has an alternative mod of transportation as she never uses it out of battle scenarios. She looked at the boy for a moment before asking him a question. "Tell me, you look like you know your way around. Do you know of any routes I may have missed that would be accessible with my wheelchair? If not do you know someone who could help me get to my room? I'd ask you but, alone to help a girl and her chair up the stairs might be much to ask. At least it's just until the school can get ramps or something for me to move more freely." Ash giggled before smiling to the boy.

Richard Lionheart

Richard Lionheart
Why would a wheelchair user need access to the dorms? Relative of a teacher maybe? Meh, good for nothing brat if it's the case, I doubt they'd let me keep my sister here... then again, I doubt I'd want to keep my sister here. Still, she seems polite enough. If she ticks me off though, I won't think twice about abandoning her here.

"Trust me, if we had elevators I'd know about it. I'd use them every day. If you're looking for a way around in that way, you might have a bit of a bad time... though I guess if you're staying here they plan to fix things up for you, right?" Richard's eyes grew manic and a smile broadened, "Are we getting elevators?!"

He quickly recomposed himself, turning to the stairs to hide his embarrassment, "Uh, but yeah I'm not to sure there is a way. I'm not the strongest but I'm strong for my size, and you don't look like you'd be too heavy... least with out the chair... Do you know how much you weigh? More importantly though, can you be removed from your chair without injury or does it require a doctor's hands?"

Richard's more analytical mind, commonly used for tactics and opponent analysis, was probably even better set tackling small problems like this. He'd always enjoyed doing puzzles as a child, especially those riddles Gyro would set up.

"Oh, and if I can carry you it'd only be this once. Don't make a habit of coming to me for help, the first one's free but I charge from there," He warned her, unwilling to take on much more work without a guarantied reward.

Ash couldn't help but giggle at the boy's expression when he thought the school could install elevators for her sake that he would probably use as well. It was obvious that he wouldn't be the only student to use elevators if some were implemented in the building, but there was something that told Ash that it was by pure laziness that he would take them, like oh so many would. As she was asked how much she weight the girl looked up with a finger on her lips as she was thinking about it. It wasn't the easiest task to weight oneself when you couldn't move properly on your own. She tried to remember before going for a random number that made sense to her. "Hmmm, I'd say a little less than 120 lbs maybe? I don't know for sure. And I could crawl if I'd need to, it's just not very useful or practical. Then it's hard to get back on my chair on my own but yea, I can move around without my chair but I'd look like a zombie or something alike."

Realizing that the boy was maybe going to help her on his own, Ash waved her hands toward him with a shy little smile. "Y-you don't need to do that yourself you know, you could wait for someone to come by and give you a hand..." The girl looked around to see if anyone was nearby but it seemed it was too early for anyone to be there. She really didn't want to cause him any trouble. She didn't want him to injure himself by helping her on his own.

Richard glowered lightly toward her, "I should be more than strong enough to lift that much, I know I'm short but I'm strong for my size. Hunters in training could be strong. Regardless of how they primarily fight. Can't have a hunter who can't handle their own weight."

He reminded himself that this was just a civilian, not a hunter in training, "Just be careful about underestimating people around here. We are trained to go out and fight after-all."

Richard ten turned back to the stairs, extending his left arm straight horizontally; he created an L shape with his forefinger and thumb. Estimating the distance in his head. It might have been a little out of his reach how tedious, an eight inch rise per step mad things difficult.

He turned back to her; "Course, with a semblance like mine raw power is less of a necessity. I can get you up there in a matter of seconds if that's fine with you... although, it may be a little frightening for a civilian."

He paused, now more than a little curious. The girl didn't look like Smokey Coot, didn't look like the Raven man... didn't look like that pompous brat Haze. Maybe she took more after her other half? Relative of a student maybe? But he was sure that wasn't allowed, couldn't have extra emotional baggage hanging around; perhaps some rich kid had bribed the headmistress.

The short man cocked a brow, "Who's dragged you out here anyway? If your parent's a teacher it's kinda awful of them to abandon you like this, not like there are any classes on right now, but if it's a student you'd think they'd look after their sister a bit better. Things are clearing up for summer, they don't really have an excuse," he tutted, "Regardless, if you can get out the chair I can get you up there. Just give me a sec'"

Richard then, extending a single of his white sickle like claws from the top of his right fore finger, tore at the rim of his already tattered cotton shirt. He struggled a bit as his crooked claws were quite blunt.

Ashley Skyler

Ashley Skyler
Ash began to wave her hands faster as he was getting it all wrong. "I not saying that I think you're not strong enough, I'm just saying that you shouldn't do it all by yourself if you don't feel like it, I would understand." She nodded when the boy said to not underestimate anyone here and she agreed with that, not saying more as it was obvious as to why.

The girl then blinked for a second as the word "civilian" was used by him, which made her wonder what he was talking about. Then when he mentioned that someone that she knew must have been somewhere in the school and abandoned her she understood. He thought that she wasn't a student, she had to make it clear now. "Oh I'm not a civilian, neither am I looking or waiting for someone. I'm actually a student here, I just arrived and I want to get to my dorm so I can get ready and all that stuff newcomers usually do." She looked directly at him with a confident smile before continuing. "Surprised huh? Don't think too much about it, I have a way to handle myself against Grimms, so don't worry~"

Ash giggled lightly before giving a thumbs up to the boy. "I'm ready whenever you are!"

Richard Lionheart

Richard Lionheart
"What?"

Richard's eyes widened, his his remaining nine claws extending defensively. He was about to position the squares of cloth he'd removed on the stairs for easy transport... but this revelation had sent him reeling. His mind was aflame with theories.

W-Was that a joke? Was she just kidding? How could a paralyzed hunter exist? Surely she's joking. I've encountered all sorts of poorly prepared student's, long hair and poor battle attire and unskilled fighters but her... how could one ever hunt from a wheelchair? She can't beat a set of stairs let alone a Beowulf! What would she arm herself with? What's she going to do? Wheel herself onto the battlefield with a machine gun in her lap? Is the chair her weapon... Is the chair her weapon? But if the chair were her weapon-

The boy's back straightened, he became far more aware of his surroundings. His left hand was held above a dust crystal alike a cowboy's hand their revolver, not facing her. Even if she'd seen his claws, even if she was aware of his strength for his size, he still had the advantage. She would have to leave her chair before she could attack... wouldn't she?

However, he quickly retracted his claws. He lent down close to her, arms at his side and (much as it pained him to do so) with his back to her.

"Alright, how're you going to more onto me? Is this okay or would you like another position? If you can wrap your arms around my neck I can stand up and grab your legs. But do remember what I'm about to do might be... slightly intimidating." He attempted to sound cool and collected, but perhaps came off as a little rough.

Just before she could latch on he cast his hand forward and up, sending the little fabric squares soaring toward the stair-top in their ball like crumpled form.

Ashley Skyler

Ashley Skyler
Ashley giggled lightly as she saw his eyes widen in surprise, but her face then took a puzzled look as he looked really tense afterward. It didn't last for too long but it did strike her as strange as most people who hear her say that she's training to be a Huntress just strait up laugh at her without any regard while he just seemed shocked. He looked like he was deep in thoughts so maybe he was trying to figure out how she would be able to fight in the first, which was the first thing everyone thought and asked. Ash smiled before giving a short version that hopefully would be enough for him. "I use a mech suit for battles. It allows me to move around by hovering or flying. If you wonder why I don't use it all the time is because it's powered by my aura and also it makes things harder to socialize when people are more focused on my suit rather than me."

As the boy crouched in front of her to offer a piggy back ride, the pilot smiled before nearly flopping on his back before wrapping her arms around him to hold herself. She wasn't intimidated in the slightest even if he did sound super cool and serious the way he just talked and was ready or rather, she thought that she was. "You have my complete trust!"

Richard's face only grew paler still as the girl talked of how she fought. Unlike most of his village, he had adapted to technology... but to be so reliant on it. A huntress couldn't be that, they wouldn't last. The instant they ran out of fuel, the instant a device broke. They'd be dead. Dead almost instantly. Nothing could save her, no one could, for if they tried she'd lead to their deaths. Almost certainly the death of the team, if not only herself.

Just as she latched on Richard dove forward, quickly crouching down and before jumping forward. The instant he left the ground however, he was suddenly eight meters in the air; having switched locations with the most ideal of the falling cotton squares he had thrown. His movement however was retained and so, as he appeared in the air, the pair launched forward like a bullet. Skidding to a halt at the top of the stairs, struggling not to fall forward and have her crush him.

He steadied himself, low to the ground; "Now then... if you were lying to me you'll be forced to have this talk. If you were lying to me, getting up and walking, I'll know you lied."

Crouching low he licked one of his clawed fingers at her hand, hoping that the shock would startle her into letting go of him. She would be left stranded without her chair at the top of the staircase, no one in sight.

"If you genuinely are paralyzed, I'm maybe sorry. I've never been trusting, but it's a trait I'm glad I have. You could easily have been faking it, your chair capable of transforming into some manner of weapon. I can't take chances like that," He informed her, "However... if you are paralyzed and a huntress in training I need to know more. How do you intend to get stronger? What if you're defeated in battle, you could lead to your allies death couldn't you? If your suit breaks you'll be stranded... tell me everything."

He remained crouched, turning to her; "What you're doing confuses me, I'm not sure if I like it yet. I'll go get your chair once I'm sure you do need it but please... do explain to me what you're doing here."

Ash didn't really know what to expect from the boy, especially since he threw pieces of his shirt up the stairs. She held tight, as tight as one would expect when they though that they would be transported up the stairs in a normal manner, which means by walking, but when she suddenly got up the stairs at seemingly light speed, it took her by surprise and immediately let go and fell on her butt. Still trying to understand what happened, the girl looked around and back where she was and saw right in front of her wheelchair a single piece of the boy's shirt slowly falling, which didn't explained what happened.

Ash looked back at the boy as he began to talk. He was literally threatening to abandon her if she didn't explain why she was here at Syne with her current condition. For a moment she didn't know what to say, usually people asked and she would happily answer, but him, he decided to help her in a time of need just so midway he could interrogate her. She was really shocked by his method but she had to admit that this might be the funniest way she was ever asked to explain herself. The girl began to laugh for a second before smiling to him. "Wow you, you're really something aren't you. Fine fine I'll tell you everything but, you know that you could simply have asked like anyone always did right? My reason wouldn't have changed in the slightest. Although you did say that you're not the trusting type, so I guess it's just your thing. Well, anyway I'm going to tell you, so where to begin? Hmm..."

"Well, I was born paraplegic, some deformation in my spine that makes the use of my legs impossible, I can't even feel them so I need to use a wheelchair to get around. It's a standard chair that you can find in any hospital, I haven't modified it in any way and probably won't. Why? Because my adoptive father, who's even shorter than you, always thought that it wasn't one shouldn't try to fight against a disability, but fight alongside it, learn how to use it to your advantage when you can and live your life to the fullest with it. Don't show weakness by complaining, but show strength in moving forward. I always believed in those words as I saw the achievements my dad accomplished even with his short stature, but I didn't always followed them. I always dreamed to fly so I decided to build something that would help me achieve that goal, but since I didn't want my father to know I kept using my chair so he wouldn't notice. Turned out he knew all along and looked for a power source for my suit but it cost him his life. He fell ill from radiation poisoning and never recovered. He did told me though that his words were only a blueprint for a way of life and that it could always be modified to fit other situation, so he convinced me to keep aiming for my dream which I did. After a year in perfecting my mech, I met Huntsmen that encouraged me to become a Huntress since my suit gave me a great advantage of being airborne. And yea I know, if my suit goes down I do and I'm pretty much screwed, but should it really stop me? I mean, if someone has to die, why not the crippled one? It's not like I'd miss to anyone in particular as the only family I had was my dad. And at least it would be doing something good right? Protecting others directly or not. And don't bring the "if you fall your team will too" debate. They would all know what it implies to be part of a team and the risks of fighting Grimms, so if something happens, we in it together, it wouldn't be my fault alone."

Ash sighed after her long speech, realizing that it may have bothered him more than answer his question, but he did say "tell me everything", which she still haven't done technically as she wasn't mentioning the fact that she didn't have a Semblance and that the suit was also a catalyst for her Aura as it didn't worked otherwise. She felt like he would react very badly to that though so she "forgot" to mention it. She looked at him directly in the eyes and smiled after a moment. "Anything else?"

The words, If someone has to die, why not the crippled one? Echoed through Richard's mind louder than anything else she'd said. The boy's brow furrowed deeply, claws on the verge of extending. He let loose a small snarl as she finished, pacing down the stairs toward her chair; grabbing it by the handles.

"An out-look like that to life, how awful. Even my philosophy of; sleep, eat, repeat... seems more natural and fair than what you're putting yourself through. Shouldn't waste life like that you know, The boy grabbed the chair, slowly lifting it wheel by wheel up the stairs, "I can't say I abide your philosophy though... there's something quite different you could take from the old man's words, not only with your technology but becoming literally stronger. Despite your disadvantage. You shouldn't have needed me to do this, you should be strong enough to tackle the stairs alone... you know? Strong despite, not strong with the aid of help, you know."

He paused in his stepping, before restarting "That might be the kind of training you're here for... but you do realize you're entering an area, filled with people who have more than that right off the bat? Won't it take a lot of private tutoring and..."

Richard reached the top, setting the chair down, "I'm not sure how to feel... even though, in hindsight, long as I don't hunt alongside you it's none of my business. I suppose I can respect your ambition, I can certainly do that much... I don't really talk like this, or this much to other students. It's strange."

He wheeled the chair to her back, hoping that would allow for the easiest access. He couldn't help smiling a little bit. Even if she was strange and ambition charged, she had a will at least. That was more than he had.

"You see, I just want to hunt for a job and power. So I can buy food and no one will mess with me. The reasons you're doing it are a lot more... well not smart perhaps, but certainly will make others want to become better hunters. I guess, long as you don't get anyone killed, yourself included, I can respect that."

Ash stayed on the ground as the boy went back to pick up her wheelchair to bring in nest to her. It seemed like her answer was a satisfying one or at least just enough for him to respect him part of the deal. She listened to every words he had to say, not interrupting him once even when he paused. She wanted to know what he thought exactly without altering what she said or adding to it. Going along with his lack of trust to others that he told earlier, he said that he felt weird from talking the way he was doing. The brunette first thought that he may be referring to just the conversation in general, but then realized that he may not be the type that doesn't understand why some people become Hunters and that her reason was more valid, maybe? She wasn't really sure but at least he seemed somewhat happy about their meeting as she noticed the smile he had.

Getting on her chair as the boy pushed it right behind her, Ash moved a bit away and turned around to face him properly. "I see what you mean, and I actually understand your own reason. Being a Hunter is just a job like any other to gain money to be able to live. Get food, get a roof over your head and go hunt again to be ready for the next time you'll be hungry. It's a simple way to see it, but you're still helping around by doing so, even if it's not your main objective. And you don't have to worry for my safety that much. Usually with my mech I'm airborne most of the time to avoid getting hit. I'm not just a metal sitting duck waiting to get crushed." Ash gave a long smile to him before bowing her head slightly. "I have to thank you, not just for helping me out, but for being the first to understand or at least respect my presence among the Hunter Community. Most people usually laugh or wave me away as a joke without even considering that I'm serious. I really appreciate your words."

"In the mech sure, but outside of it... you do plan to get stronger right? You're not so stupid to wholly rely on your technology alone right? In your position a weapon might not be best... but dust wise, there's a lot you could do for yourself. I tend to specialize in it more so to make up for my size," He questioned, admitted and informed.

He was half tempted to pull out a crystal there and then, if she couldn't survive the attack she wasn't fir to be a huntress... but he restrained himself. Probably would be a bit rude to blast her with electricity or detonate a bomb in her face right this instant. It'd help her learn, maybe, but the wounds and psychological scaring of a sudden blast from a person who just put faith in you... may never heal.

He quickly realized how imbalanced he was, unlike his usual self. He was paying attention, not yawning and taking in what little mattered. He was taking time, letting the other person talk and giving good answers. His face turned red, a small snarl coughing out.

"Oi oi, as I said. This is abnormal for me. Don't expect this kind of help from me ever again. Certainly not for free, you got it?" He grumbled, "However... if you need help with your dust and I'm bored enough I might lift a finger."

Ash took a moment to think about what the boy just said as he was totally right. She could indeed handle herself in her mech, but once she was outside she was exposed and vulnerable, especially since unlike other Hunters, her Aura didn't work without the use of a catalyst which was her mech, so any fatal blow would probably kill her on the spot. She would have been really happy; and maybe scared a little; if she knew that he had thought about using his Dust on her but refrained from doing so. It would have been an horrible surprised to both of them if he had gone through with his idea. But since there was no way for her to know, everything was fine.

Carrying Dust with her at all time wouldn't be a bad idea, she could always use it to protect herself if needed. The idea of counter attacking seemed nice, but far less viable as she wasn't the most mobile in her wheelchair so the brunette would probably focus on defense when not in her mech, at least until she can either get in it or find help. But she hasn't trained herself in Dust' more traditional uses, she only learned how to use it to alter her Beam Cannon's shot type and was just using Fire Dust so far as a water gun, a hair dryer and a pebble launcher weren't the most intimidating weapons ever. That's when the boy said that he would maybe help her with her Dust if he was bored. Not knowing if it was just for trying to sound cool again or not, Ash smiled to him and nodded. "It would be really appreciated, I know my way around making Dust compound to alter my weapon's fire mode, but I'm not familiar with it's more common usage. You would be of a great help... if you're bored that is~" Ash gave him an amused smile with a giggle.

Richard's brows furrowed further, "You are far too trusting. I just dumped you at the top of these stairs and threatened to leave you there..."

Richard couldn't help complaining, the idea of having to work along-side incompetent hunters was frustrating. Let alone the potential loss of life stupidity could account for, it took one idiot among the crows to get them shot. He drew forth another ivory claw, scratching the top of his head. He had to options; continue to annoy these people and continue to be annoyed by them. Or teach these people to be better and continue to be annoyed by them, slightly less he supposed. One required more effort but at the reward of less overall annoyance. He mentally shrugged, he wouldn't think too hard about it.

"Just maybe be a bit more skeptical, I can't really stop you being naive though," Richard shrugged, "Anyway, as for dust, I've read about all they have in the library. A lot of it's garbage, but there are diamonds in the rough."

Richard, slowly but surely returning to his regular lazy state, let out a loud yawn. Eyes sinking back into their tired state. He'd been up what... fifteen, thirty minutes? Far too long.

"So, do you think your room and stuff will okay? There could be more unplanned obstructions right?"

Ash tilted her head slightly as she was said to be too trusting by the boy before she giggled. "You did dropped and threatened me, but you still helped me right? You can try as much as you want to look cold and uncaring to others, but deep down you just want to care for others. You just do it your own way. But yea I guess I should be a bit more around strangers, but we're in a school of Hunters so surely no one here is really bad." The boy then said that the library held a number of books related to Dust but that most of them weren't worth her while, straight up calling them garbage but that a few would be great. "Well, maybe you could send me a list of the best ones? Oh but you'd need my name though, right? I'm Ashley Skyler, but you can call me Ash. If I had your name it would help too, so I would know that it's you that would have sent the message."

As she saw that the boy was looking tired, Ash decided that she wouldn't bother him more and that she would end for her room. "No I think I will be fine on my own from here, my room is on this floor and I'll have a way to get around when there. Thanks for everything and see you around~" With that the brunette went into the next hallway that led toward her room. It wasn't a bad meeting for the first person she had spoken to so far in the academy. It could have gone waaaaaaay worse than that.

Richard growled, clicking his tong. The idea that he was sweet deep down, like some kind of cake or candy. What a horrible idea. It was because it was early and he'd misjudged her, that was all. Idea that he was some kind simpleton, too dumb to see a challenge or an opponent before him.

He yelled at her back; "The name is Richard! Don't expect me to remember yours, I didn't ask for it!"

His face was thoroughly red, sweat on his brow and a deep pout on his face. Idea that some stupid paraplegic had the ability to control him in such a way, she was clearly more dangerous than she was willing to let on. Something he would usually regard as good and be happy about, had she not bested him at their first confrontation... it was as if she hadn't even seen it as a confrontation.

He sighed, trudging away from her and toward his room. Flopping onto his bed... just in time for an alarm next to him to sound, his pet chimp rising from his own bed and hopping onto the short man's back... oh today was getting off to a brilliant start.
