Rika Titania

Rika Titania
The role of a duster was a tricky one to peg compared to the other majors within the confines of the hunters’ system.  While many of the other majors had definitive roles that could easily fit into a box, at least in Rika’s mind, a duster could easily fit into many different roles.  Much like the subject matter of their study itself.

The pigtailed girl wasn’t one prone to self-reflection, or any degree of introspection whatsoever.  In fact, she disliked committing to such activities, as there were far more fun things she could be doing. The fact that the act of thinking on one’s behavior required a focus, patience, and temperament Rika Titania lacked were also contributors to her issues, though she would likely not think too much deep on the concept either way.  Deep thought was just boring, and that was that as far as the pigtailed cat faunus was concerned.

Despite this she had been becoming aware of a few rather glaring issues with her fighting style and interest. Rika loved dust, and it had turned out she had quite a bit of natural talent in using it based on her recent experience with the substance, both in and out of a fight. However, her main issue was she really didn’t know all that much ABOUT dust except how to use it. Most of her use of it was more instinctual, or things she’d learned largely through trial and error as opposed to general knowledge, and none of the classes she’d seen so far had helped her with that subject unfortunately.

She managed to get her hands on one of the new dust types, a pink colored dust that she'd never tried before, the pigtailed girl didn't have much of it, and her first use sent her flying into the wall of the dorm room. It took a long period of time before she finally succeeded in her goal, sending a chair flying across the room where it smacked against the wall. The pigtailed girl grinned wildly at this success, confident in her ability to use the new dust type now.

It was an issue that had been nagging at her mind a bit since she’d gone on a hunt previously during the week. But her dust supply was rather limited, and she didn’t even know most of the other dusts all that much aside from the fact that she needed to take some type of test to buy them. It was annoying to be honest, and the pigtailed girl wasn’t sure what to do with the whole situation. She’d learned a bit when she’d toured one of the major dust mines on Bellmuse, but not nearly enough to make her feel she’d be able to pass any sort of test.

A glance across her dorm, a mess at the best of times, but not helped by her focus being on her current issue revealed something she’d nearly forgotten about in the brief time she’d been here at Syne. There had been a point where she’d helped a book store owner fix up their shop, and the pigtailed girl had been given a book on dust as payment. A book that had since been left untouched after she’d gotten home that day, left on a chair near her bed to sit for the last several weeks.

Rika contrary to what many who knew her would think had tended to be a big reader back home. This however had never really been by choice for her, and as such when she’d gotten to Bellmuse the habit had been sidelined.   It was simply something she’d done at home because she had little choice in the matter. A homestead in the middle of nowhere with no other children around did not lend itself well to entertaining any child, let alone one as hyperactive as Rika tended to be. As a result, reading had become a necessary outlet to stave off boredom more than anything, and even then, the selection back home had been rather limited, with her father figure occasionally bringing back a new book occasionally.

As a result, Rika had developed a taste for books, albeit more of the fictional variety than the likes of the tome on dust she’d been gifted, however she’d simply had so much more to distract her that reading had been largely sidelined since coming to Bellmuse, and as a result the dust book had been left sitting around unread.

Now however Rika opened the book and practically absorbed its contents. Eager to learn all she could about her new passion. Dust apparently was split into tiers for an actual reason, with higher tier dust being not only hard to activate, and requiring more aura and spirit control to use, but more dangerous as well. There were several types too that would classify. Though the ones the pigtailed girl was currently focused on were the ones more relevant to her currently. Namely the tier one and two dusts. The tier one dusts she was familiar with, being the basic elements of fire, water, earth, and wind. Much of this information the redhead already knew from the lessons she’d received from Siegfried, and as such it allowed her to skim to a remarkably helpful degree.

Still it was several hours of grueling study that the normally unfocused faunus engaged in. In addition to more potent versions of the elements she knew of, apparently there were more elements to the second tier of dust that she hadn’t known about. Not all types of dust were easily available of course, but Rika’s mind moved at rapid speeds that would shock anyone who knew her at the potential uses she could see for some of these.  Explosion and Thrust dust sounded like they would be very fun to play with.  Two dusts that nobody in their right mind would want the redhead to know about, had they had a say in the matter. Plant, lightning, and ice dust were also helpful, being dust types that the pigtailed girl would probably enjoy using very much when she got the opportunity.  It was hours before anyone would see the pigtailed girl, as she’d spent the entire day reading up on.

After which she would go looking for where she would need to take the test for her tier 2 license. It didn’t take long, as the dorms had flier which stated exactly what the pigtailed girl needed to know. It was a couple hours later a pigtailed Cat faunus could be seen exiting the Bellmuse licensing offices, a smirk on her face, excitement evident in her blue eyes.
