Ace

Ace
With a white collared shirt, black vest, black tie, and messy hair, the boy emerged out of the crowd of Freshman students. Inside the front of his vest both pistols are holstered neatly, carefully concealed in his clothing. Along his belt are several clips of bullets, along with a small leather pouch with a collection of black marbles within.

With a heavy sigh, Ace walked out of the room in a haze, baffled by the amount of fluff they would put into the speeches of these teachers. Such an elaborate welcoming for new hunters... how many of this class would make it to graduation? Hell, how many kids would even make it passed Freshman year? At least some of the teachers back in Signal knew how to scare kids straight, make them work for it and not just say how much potential they all had and how all of them would help to make a brighter future.

Breaking from the crowd, he comes to lean against the wall in the hallway, pulling out a lighter and striking a cigarette between his fingers. Shaking his head for a moment, he raises the cigarette up to his lips, not raising his eyes to meet any of the disapproving passerby students in the crowd. After a boring lecture and speech like that, not indulging a little bit would be a crime.

A sigh escapes the young man as his toe-less boots carry him from the lecture hall, the faces around him as his burning eyes looked around the room..All lacked conviction, lacked ambition and pride in what they were apart of. They lacked the fear and the dedication that should come from being a Hunter or Huntress and while he got many disgusted looks, he saw no looks appraising his level of skill in combat or just what his intentions were...Is he the only one who took his lessons from Signal to heart? Is he the only one here who knows what he'll be doing and what he's getting himself into? His blue hood is pulled up, connected to the blue sleeveless shirt tucked into a belt which holds up his brown trousers. His arms are obscured by a pair of long brown leather coverings and the soft barely audible noise of metal rings gives away the chain-mail hidden underneath his clothes, his legs are obscured by a long pair of boots with a knee-guard..But the most notable part about him are the two curved horns and the scale covered tail protruding from the back of his pants..And perhaps the large Halberd strapped to his back in a position to draw and swing in a single movement..

His scowl deepens at the looks he's getting before he steps away from the crowd and moves to the side of the hall, happening to be in a position beside someone who seems to be taking a smoke break...His purpose for breaking off is simple..He wants a team so he can take missions, he's looking for strong candidates..or perhaps someone who doesn't look at like he's a farm animal and he just so happens to settle in to do so beside the dual pistol wielder....He's gonna need a bigger weapon soon.

And so the farm animal came to stand by him, only ten or so seconds into enjoying the fumes and then it had to get all muddied up by the kid with the over-compensatory Halberd. Funny thing is this was the kinda guy who probably wanted to get an even bigger weapon. Total nut job, definitely dealt with a bit of xenophobia for the kinda person he was. Then again, there weren't a whole lot of normal hunters, to want to go out and fight the Grimm you had to be a little crazy. Regardless, some stuck out more than others.

Without opening his eyes or turning his head he spoke, a gentle puff of smoke emerging and his lips curling into a slight smile. "Weren't you the kid from back in Signal who always took everyone so seriously?" Hard to remember really, he was still trying to place the kid in his memory. Just as he was clearing his memory from such a mind numbing speech too. What a pain.

...Why is that smile unnerving? His gaze turns towards the Pistol Wielder who..does actually look familiar, he arches an eyebrow at the choice of address and with a tilt of his head and a tone that says he's not sure how to take his statement he responds "...I guess?" He retorts, he's a special kind of crazy to an outside observer sure but as a Hunter? He works out rather well, big weapon, big monsters and a really large amount of damage to deal with his weapon. Still, there's something to be said about speed as well he's just genetically he's not going to lose any speed by having a large weapon and so..He can wield such a weapon and still remain rather light on his feet. "You went to Signal too?" He asks before his gaze flicks back to the crowd and he leans against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest as his eyes roam over the crowd to appraise there worth. "..What do you think of these people?" He asks diplomatically, in truth he doesn't think they belong here..At least most of them seem to not realize what they're doing and will most likely drop-out of the Academy.

Professor Coal

Professor Coal
Coal had a rough day ahead of him. Again, a new batch of freshmen were arriving and this time, for no reason, the Boss wanted to give some sort of speech to the new kids. Like it was suppose to help... He had to sit there, on the stage with the other teachers and students all listening to the "great inspiring words" of Mrs. Lilac. Coal was already pissed when he woke up, this was borderline enraging him.

As the speech was over and that everyone was exiting the room, Coal did the same, but got out from another door, avoiding all those pesky students and those boring teachers. As he walked toward his office, he looked in his pockets trying to find his smokes and his lighter, but was missing the later. Releasing a sigh of exasperation as he turned around, he saw a students, leaning against the wall, lighting himself a cigarette. Coal walked toward the boy. He seemed to be talking to another student, but hell did Coal didn't like this one. He couldn't help but think one thing from seeing something he started to hate: very tall students. Last time he saw students that tall, his classroom caught fire... He dismissed the tall one for a sec as he talked to the smoking one. "Oi, can I borrow you some fire? I think I lost mine..." He would light his own smoke whither or not the student was agreeing to. He would then give him back his lighter before leaning against the opposite wall before releasing a cloud of dark smoke from his mouth. "Talk about a boring morning... I hate speeches like that..." Coal wasn't expecting any response from the students as he would have answered to himself in that situation. We could say he was talking to himself.

He listened to the two talking. They seemed to be from Signal. "Signal? Why are they here at Syne in the province of Vytal if they could be at Beacon back in Vale, where Signal is as well? Why did they travel all the way here? That's............. just plain useless and stupid..." He looked at both of them and decided to wait before asking them, maybe they would reveal something just by talking...

"What do I think?"

Ace smiles, exhaling another puff of smoke before raising his fingers to his lips and withdrawing the cigarette from his mouth. This time his eyes open, glancing briefly at the sorry crowd in front of him before he locks eyes with Siegfried.

"This class is the sorriest heap of shi-"

He glances over at the professor, blinking a couple times as he's cut off mid dialogue. "Yeah, sure." he states before flicking out his lighter again and letting the man borrow it.

Ace listens to the man, blinking slowly as he wonders if the teacher is testing him and pretending to be all hip and cool before springing in about how friendship is great and teamwork is important.
He nods at the teacher, uncertain but agreeing. The speech was indeed boring, probably the default ceremony text that every class has read to them.

"Hmm? Oh, uh I heard that Syne is just a far superior academy. Better faculty and more likely to prepare you for the dangers of the Grimm"

Alright that... wasn't true. Ace was expelled from Beacon when he was initiated at the young age of 16. "What an opportunity squandered" blablabla, whatever. Most of the kids at Beacon were just as weak, and completely oblivious to the dangers of being a Hunter and the dire situation humanity was in. Maybe Syne would be better, although that speech wasn't a good sign of things to come...

His eyes lock onto the Smoking mans as he pulls the cigarette from his lips and his own lips quirk into an amused smile at the beginning of the sentence that actually mirrors his own view...well, except for the vulgarity of the sentiment, he's sure they're of worth...Just not as Hunters and not here at Syne Academy...Still it's strange this one is attending Syne and not Beac- His thoughts cease as he turns his gaze towards another man..A rather short man asking for a lighter from who is currently his number one candidate for a team-member. At the very least he seems to have good eyes and be a good judge of a situation and the pistols suggest he'll keep a distance and be able to support someone of his skill set rather well. He's here at Syne because while he was born nearby Vale his Father attended Syne academy and..well, technically he's a legacy..? It has to do with familial honor, however his own siblings have no desire to become Hunters...Except for his Older Sister..Though he's sure she's attending Beacon Academy and he can keep at least a continent in between her and himself...She's a scary woman and the only one of his Siblings he could not defeat in their training spars with the Halberd.

"I'm looking for a Team, you got anyone in mind yet?" He asks his eyes turning away from the newcomer who..Appears to be a Teacher if he has to guess...Though he's short he looks quite old. Perhaps he will be in his class, he also for an unknown reason briefly considers taking up smoking himself particularly he's interested in the lighter. "I need a Team to do missions with and so far..." He glances towards the students which have begun to clear out by now and frowns softly. "..They don't appear to be..prepared." He hasn't even introduced himself yet, but this isn't something he has guidelines for, he was simply searching for the most able and he's the first one he saw that didn't seem like they would run the instant an Ursa reared it's ugly head.

Professor Coal

Professor Coal
Coal started to gaze at the student who accepted to borrow him his lighter. He seemed... rather bored, uncaring even, like he thought that his fate was pinned down. Not in a dramatic way, more like he thought he was destined to be great, remembered, like he had value above others. He even didn't looked like he cared about the other guy, just talked back in some form of passive-aggressive attitude. The way that kid acts with his smoke, the way he talks like he doesn't give a damn about what could really happen to others, the way he looks with his tie, his cigarette, his gun in his holster............. Goddammit, he looks just like Coal but younger... and Coal hated to think about that... He listen to what he said about Syne and released a chuckle. "That's bullshit. You don't even believe what you're saying yourself, and you want me to believe you? Come on, either tell a convincing lie or tell the truth, have some guts for one of them..."

He then switched his gaze from his mini-self to the tall one. He looked like the fighter type. Has a large body, a large weapon... a large tail... He looked like he was here because of some belief he had. He was standing tall, even leaned against the wall, and also proud. He had some sort of flame in his eyes... He was fighting for something, or someone important. He seemed more qualified as a Huntsman for that, but unfortunately, he seemed naive as he asked the other smoker to be part of a team. They didn't seem to know each other, did they even knew the name of the other one?

He then looked at the two for a moment, trying to imagine if they'll be good hunters... He could really tell from the get go, but he had a weird feeling if those two were to be in a team together in the end. He took a large puff from his cigarette before releasing the cloud of smoke as he asked: "So, what brought two kids from Vale here in Vytal? Give me the good and short answer..."

Ace

Ace
Ace brings the cigarette back up to his lips, his eyes closing again as his head turns down to his feet. Alright, a rough around the edges professor then? Calling him out only a few sentences into the interaction as well. It was true though, Achilles did in fact have high hopes for Syne, at least in comparison to the joke that was Beacon academy. He doesn't respond however, just an involuntary twitch of his right hand towards his chest to reach for a pistol. Something about reaching for the gun at any negative moment seemed strangely right to him. In Beacon they cited it as a reason for expulsion, stating that he had an "unprecedented addiction to violence" and his "talent was unable to be properly honed by our faculty". Sounds like a lack of efficient faculty.

The teacher speaks up again with a question, Ace letting the silence hang in the air for a few moments before responding. "I want to kill some Grimm". As good an answer as any right? Sure his whole family was killed and most of his hometown annihilated from an onslaught. Sure he was expelled from Beacon and had to transfer through some unorthodox means, but Professor Coal did in fact ask for a short answer. Hopefully that would prove to be a satisfactory one. Besides, it did establish the proper tone that Ace wanted to get across. If things went perfectly, they'd be off on a mission together to kill some Grimm before the day was out.

The Faunus stares hard for a moment as the Teacher asks the pair what their purpose for being here in Vytal why join Syne Academy instead of Beacon Academy..Or why become Hunters in the first place? His reasons aren't something he can summarize shortly, an ideal? Because he wants to help people? Make a real difference in the lives of good and innocent people by letting them live it instead of being torn apart by cruel monstrosities? Yes, that's why he joined Syne Academy and why he attended Signal and why he's here now.

His burning eyes stare for a long moment and unintentional or not he answers in unison with the Chain-Smoker standing beside him and simply says "To eradicate the Grimm." he states, a chance also appearing before him in his mind...Two scenarios; This Professor attempts to scare them straight...Or perhaps he'll lecture them? If the first scenario occurs, he'll simply show off that he's not so easily deterred and if he's fast enough he'll kill the creature and may even be able to skip the 'Team' altogether and be able to kill Grimm with an Escort and get some real hands on experience.

Coal released a sigh, letting his cigarette falls toward the ground, as he was really disappointed from their answers. Sure they did answer with short and convincing reason, but it's also a stupid reason and the fact that they answered at the same time just . Who would join a school to train people to hunt and kill Grimms, if it's not to kill those things you are trained to kill in the first place? That's too simple of an answer. Coal squished the smoke that was on the ground before shoving it under the rug of the hallway. He didn't care, it wasn't like it was going to burn the carpet...

He looked at the boys for a moment. They were clearly telling the truth. They were here to kill Grimms. Coal still didn't know what reasons they had to, but at least they were serious about being here. He took a piece of paper out of his pocket and wrote on it coordinates before giving a piece of it to the two of them. "If you really want to kill Grimm, well you're in luck, I'm the one who teaches the class on fighting them. On this paper, coordinates... Find me there tomorrow, at least, if you want to, and will kill some. If you want to bring friends... Meh, why not..." He started to walk away, waving the boys back as he leaves there vicinity.

Ace took it in his hand, staring at the piece of paper for a few seconds before tucking it into the inside breast pocket of his vest. He lets out a heavy sigh, craning his head upwards and letting loose a thin cloud of smoke that seeps towards the ceiling. "Guess it wasn't just some lecture, huh?" he thinks to himself. Odd for a teacher to give them clearance to get into the thick of it after one quick orientation speech. Regardless, he wasn't going to start asking questions about it. This was a fantastic opportunity to get right into the thick of it. Already this place was turning out to be better than Beacon was.

"Have any friends you wanna bring?"

He was at least going to have the share the glory with this Faunus, might as well get a full team while they're at it. Ace didn't really know anyone else at this school yet, but perhaps he came with some connections. Even so, the fewer people that went along would be better. Less chances of someone weak getting in over their head. Looking out for the safety of your squadmates was always a concern.
But the most concerning thing is whether or not there would be enough Grimm to kill.

His read on the situation was correct and he nods gratefully towards the Professor for the chance, he's not scared of these creatures and never will be his reasons aren't simply to kill Grimm but killing Grimm is most likely how he'll be able to save those who are in need of saving..And perhaps one day end this War with those foul creatures find a way to drive them underground or eliminate their means of reproducing entirely. He leans over to read the paper his eyes scanning the coordinates and memorizing them just before it's hidden from his sight and after a moment the Smoker speaks again. His eyes narrow in thought and the Teachers parting words do strike a bit of intrigue with him.

Clicking his tongue he shakes his head and speaks again his frown and expression thoughtful as he gazes through the crowd "I don't, but...A Team would help us rise through the ranks faster..I suspect the Professors parting words were more than what they seemed." He explains gazing towards the mans retreating back before his eyes scan the area. "I believe he's testing our worth and willingness to work with others rather than our combat abilities...We should indulge him if we're to succeed here." His gaze returns to the man before he finally introduces himself "My names Siegfried, would you be interested in helping me find a Team?" He asks the Chain-Smoker, more out of formality that he doesn't seem to care for but doesn't mind much either.

Siegfried huh? Definitely not a human name, sounds like a name meaning honor or victory or something of the sort. Probably brought into the business of being a hunter as a family tradition, can't imagine there would be a lot of other occupations for someone of his particular stature.

His eyes open again, the last of the crowded classroom had trickled out into the halls and headed back to the dorms or their next lecture. Probably should ditch the next couple lectures, nothing important to be learned, and there were preparations that needed to be made if he was to be facing Grimm tomorrow. A few more energy projection spheres, and perhaps there was an armory in the school that could lend a few more clips of ammo.

He brings his fingers up to his lips, a last puff of smoke being exhaled before he withdraws the cigarette and drops it onto the ground, his right foot coming to gently rest on top of it. He glances at Siegfried once more before turning down the hallway and leaving.

"The name's Ace, and only if you think you'll need the back-up."

He stares after Ace for a moment as he leaves with what he feels is a bit of a shot, a small smirk tugs at the corners of his lips and he shakes his head in amusement, the Pistol Wielder seems to have something to prove but he seems to have enough sense not to abandon the idea entirely. Does Siegfried believe he'll need anyone's help? No, no he does not, he's been trained since he was young in fighting techniques, tactics and how to be a Hunter. Ace will come around, he appears to be the type that requires a person to have a use to him in order to be worth having around...Strangely enough he trusted him to put the Team together which either means he doesn't care either way, or he made a good enough impression that he trusts him enough to at least bring some useful bodies along. He has until tomorrow to find two others of worth and like minds, he has the bait and a way of convincing them to join...he just needs to find the right candidates.

He turns away and walks towards the classes, unfortunately he'll not get anywhere by simply wandering the halls...he has to attend the other lectures to find proper candidates among the students...Oh, that's another reason Ace could have left...

..Clever little bas-
